Since moving to Australia from England many years ago, our client’s hadn’t lived in colder homes than what they experienced with conventional Australian houses. It was well past time to design and build a warm, welcoming Passivhaus to relax and enjoy the Victorian Surf Coast rural lifestyle.

Light and comfort were the biggest focus for Connewarre Passivhaus. Shadow, materials and texture play a huge part in how the house changes throughout the day for the occupants to suit their lifestyle.

Inspired by a rural-farmhouse feel, the design approach to the hub of the house - the kitchen - was pragmatic, neat and homely. It connects to all of the important access areas: Living room, laundry, main entry and the primary use stations - fridge, sink, dishwasher - which are pushed to the rear, out of sight, out of mind.

Passivhaus is not “Solar Passive Design”. Passivhaus relies on a lot of performance data to calculate how the building will hold up in it’s specific location. In our climate, shading the sun is super important to as to not overheat.
